YDL Lower Age 1st June Ashton-Under-Lyne

This was the second YDL Lower age group meeting and the team had travelled to Tameside stadium in Ashton-Under-Lyne, we had a total of 20 athletes competing on the day and 4 athletes competing for the first time. There were 6 U13’s boys, Cameron Austin, Danny Lavin, Callum Crosby, Callum Gordon, Isaac Parker and Harry Barclay one of the new athletes.

Callum Crosby started the day of in the Long Jump coming 2nd with a jump of 4.03, then both Callum and Cameron ran the 75metre Hurdles race, Callum came 1st in his race with a time of 14.8 and Cameron running 16.2. Callum finished his events with a good High Jump of 1.20 and Cameron went onto throw 14.79 in the Javelin and 5.56 in the Shot Putt. Danny ran both the 100 and 200 metres running PB’s in both with times of 13.7 in the 100m and 28.7 in the 200 metres.

Isaac ran both the 800 metres and the 100 metres getting himself 2 PB’s with times of 2.56 and 14.3 respectively. Callum Gordon came 2nd in his 200 metres with a good time of 30.8 and did really well running the 1500 metres in 6.06 getting valuable points for the team. This was Harry’s first meeting and he did 2 throws, Javelin and Shot Put throwing 21.10 in Javelin and coming 2nd with a throw of 5.95 in Shot and he finished his day off with a 1.10 High Jump.

The boys then teamed up for the 4 x 100 relay, Danny again ran first leg, then Isaac, Callum Crosby and Cameron brought the team home in 1st position, with a time of 61.4 well done boys.

This time we had 3 U15’s boys Jonah Saunders who threw 2 PB’s 16.64 in the Discus and 12.66 in the Hammer and a good throw of 24.01 in the Javelin. Luke Bowen ran 14.5 in the 100 metres and 29.9 in the 200 metres and 3.46 in the Long Jump, Matthew Smith was also competing in his first meeting ran a fast 13.2 in the 100 metres and jumped 3.59 in the Long Jump all the boys scored valuable points for the team.

Once again the girls had a fantastic day doing themselves proud, the U13’s had 5 athletes and U15’s had 6 girls in their team. The U13’s comprised of Evie Barclay, Ella Harper, Helena Norris, Katie Shingler and Anna Walton.

Evie ran the 800 metres in 2.38, came 1st in her 75 metre Hurdles heat in 12.4 and 1st in Javelin throwing 25.06. Ella ran the 75 metres and 150 metres even though she had a sore shoulder, running 11.3 and 21.9 respectively. Helena threw 4.13 in Shot, ran 11.2 in the 75 metres and finished with 3.90 in Long Jump gaining valuable points for the team. Anna enjoyed her second YDL meeting running both the 150 and the 800 metres in 23.0 secs and 2.49 respectively coming 2nd in her B race, Anna also did the Long Jump jumping 2.93. Katie competed in the 70mHurdles, Javelin and High Jump, coming 1st in all 3 events, running 12.1 in the Hurdles, throwing 15.56 in Javelin and jumping 1.36 in the High Jump.

This time Anna, Evie, Helena and Katie, ran the 4 x 100 relay and they were storming home 40 metres in the lead when Katie fell, she got up and still managed to finish 4th with a time of 61.4.

In the U15’s Rebecca Mullaney ran a PB of 13.2 in the 100 metres and 27.8 in the 200 metres and threw a PB of 11.03 in the Discus, Hannah Stephenson also got herself 2 PB’s running the 200 metres in a time of 27.8, and the 800 metres in 2.32.2. Ellie Dacre once again threw the Javelin and the Discus throwing 20.11 and 13.73 respectively and also at this meeting she threw her first Hammer recording a throw of 7.92. Emily Shelmerdine returned to running this time after her injury and ran a PB in the 75 metre hurdles running 12.9 secs, she also threw the Javelin and did the High Jump to help get valuable points. We had 2 new athletes competing Ellie Charnock and Jess Taylor and they fitted into the team and both did extremely well, Ellie ran 14.4 in the 100 metres, 5.57 in the 1500 metres and a great jump of 4.35 in the Long jump, while Jess finished 3rd in her first ever 75 metre Hurdles race and a fantastic 1.35 High jump.

Ellie, Hannah, Emily and Rebecca then lined up for the 4 x 100 metre relay and they did extremely well finishing 4th in 55.6.

The team finished 5th overall with 434 points.
