YDL Upper Age 2nd June Salford

In the second YDL Upper age group meeting the team travelled to Salford, we had only 3 boys and 6 girl athletes competing. There were 3 U17’s boys, Noah Saunders, Nathan Walker, and James Lovell.

Nathan and James both ran the 100 and 200 metres, Nathan as the U20’s runner and James as the U17’s, Nathan ran 12.5 and then came 1st in the 200m with a time of 25.7, he then did the Shot Put throwing 6.41, while James got 2, 1st’s and a 2nd he came 1st with a PB time of 11.6 in the 100 metres, 24.0 in the 200 metres and another 1st in the 400 metres with another great time of 53.0 seconds. Noah decided he would like to throw and did the Hammer and Javelin getting himself PB’s in both throws, he threw 18.20 in the Hammer and 13.11 in the Javelin. Noah then decided to do the 800 metres, a race he had never done before, he managed to get round in a time of 3.21.8, well done Noah.

Meanwhile the girls also had a fantastic day doing themselves proud, we had 5 U17’s, Natassia Dacre, Grace Shelmerdine, Sophie Williams, Lucy Philpotts and Madeleine Hunt competing her first competition this season, while Amy Philpotts was the only U20’s. Grace ran the 100 metres for the U17’s in 13.6 and did both the Long and Triple Jump, jumping 4.43 and 9.23 respectively.

Tash threw the Hammer throwing 18.75 and in the Discus throwing 18.75 and she came 2nd as an U20’s in the Javelin with a throw of 31.32. Sophie started the day off once again running the 300 metre Hurdles, smashing 2.8 seconds off her PB by running 51.6, she also ran her first 80 metre Hurdles of the season and coming 3rd with a time of 14.8 and finished the day off by coming 1st in the Javelin with a throw of 26.37. Madeleine was competing in the Shot and Discus, she came joint 1st in the Shot with a throw of 7.76 and then came 1st in the Discus with a throw of 29.47 smashing the Club Record. Lucy had a good all round day running a time of 2.38.1 in the 800 metres, a new PB in the 200 metres if 28.7 and a Long Jump of 3.23.

Amy was our only U20’s and because of injury she also decided to just throw for team points, she threw 7.07 in the Hammer, came 2nd in the Javelin with 16.65 and 1st in the Discus with 16.41, getting valuable points for the team.

The U17’s ran the 4 x 300 metre relay, Tash ran the first leg, then Sophie and Lucy had good legs before Grace brought the team home in 2nd position in 3.21.6.

The team finished 5th overall with 253 points.
