YDL Lower Age 4th April Carlisle

In the first YDL Lower age group meeting the team had to travel up to Sheepmount stadium in Carlisle, 18 athletes, coaches and parents travelled by coach while a further 5 Athletes came by car. There were 4 U13’s boys, 3 boys Cameron Austen, Danny Lavin, Lewis Wilkes had never competed before while Isaac Parker had competed last year and at Mid Lancs the week before.

Cameron started the day off in his first ever 75metre Hurdles race, running a great 15.9 and coming 2nd and carried on in the Long Jump and Shot Put. Danny was extremely nervous in his first event the 200 metres but ran a superb 29.2 coming 2nd then going onto run 14.2 in the 100 metres.

Lewis and Isaac both ran the 800 metres in 2.41 and 3.01 respectively while Lewis also won his 100 metre heat in 14.5 while Isaac ran 29.7 a PB in the 200m and got valuable points in the Long jump. The boys then teamed up for the 4 x 100 relay, they had a 5 minute session on baton changing, Danny ran first leg, then Isaac, Lewis and Cameron brought the team home in 1st position, with a time of 59.5 well done boys.

We had only 2 U15’s boys Jonah Saunders who threw the Hammer and Javelin and Ben Cooper also in his first meeting running 14.3 in the 100 metres, 29.8 in the 200 metres and finishing the day off with a decent Long Jump.

Meanwhile the girls also had a fantastic day doing themselves proud, both the U13’s and U15’s had 6 girls in their teams. The U13’s comprised of Evie Barclay, Ella Harper, Helena Norris, Sophie Stewart, Katie Shingler and Anna Walton who was competing in her first YDL.

Evie ran the 800 metres, came 1st in her 75 metre Hurdles heat in 12.4 and 2nd in Javelin throwing 22.21. Ella threw 4.63 in the Shot Put and came 2nd in the 150 metres with a good run of 21.1. Helena was also in Shot, ran 10.9 in the 75 metres and finished 1st in Long Jump. Sophie also ran in the 150 metres finishing 1st in her heat and third overall with 21.3 and running the 1500 metres in 4.54 with a fantastic 80 metre sprint finish to get valuable points for the team. Anna was competing in her first meeting doing the Long Jump and running the 800 metres in 2.84 with a sore leg, which forced her out of the relay. Performance of the day was Katie Shingler with 3, 1st positions and 3 PB’s in High Jump 1.41 cm, running 75 metres in 10.4 and 75 metre Hurdles in 12.2. Helena, Katie, Sophie and Ella then ran the 4 x 100 relay, storming home 50 metres in front with a time of 57.2.

The U15’s Rebecca Mullaney ran 13.4 and 27.8 in the 100 metres and 200 metres respectively and threw 10.96 in the discus, Katy Marsh was the other 100 metre runner, running 13.9 and jumping 3.66 in the Long Jump. Hannah Stephenson ran 200 metre in a PB time of 28.0, finished 2nd in the 800 metres in 2.33 and jumped 1.35 in High Jump. Ellie Dacre threw 18.18 in the Javelin and 18.13 in the Discus finishing a good 3rd Emily Shelmerdine couldn’t run as she had broken her toe a few weeks before but threw the Javelin and managed to High Jump 1.25 to help get valuable points. Lucy Worthington was the only U15’s girl not to have competed before and was nervous before her 800 metre race but did really well finishing in 2.50 secs and managing 4.93 in Shot Put.

Ellie, Katy, Lucy and Rebecca then lined up for the 4 x 100 metre relay and having seen both the U13’s boys and girls winning, they had a lot to live up to and did extremely well finishing 4th in 55.5.
The team finished 5th overall with 379 points.
