Mid Lancs 27th April Blackpool
Mid Lancs 27th April Blackpool
In the first Mid Lancs meeting this season a total of 21 athletes turned out for Horwich, 8 male competitors and 13 females. There were 4 senior men Mike Houghton, Wayne Shingler and Trevor Williams gained maximum points in 4 different events and also broke a couple of PB’s along the way, while William Martin came along and ran a respectable 2.31 in the 800m. Two U17’s boys James Lovell and Nathan Walker, one U15’s Jonah Saunders and U13’s Isaac Parker also had excellent performances, gaining maximum points in 5 events. Jonah won both the Javelin throwing 29.18 and the Hammer, while Isaac won both his heats and ran 2 PB’s in the 100m and 200m. Unfortunately Nathan ran a fantastic 100m in 12.4 but fell at the finish and ended up having first aid for his nasty injuries.
Meanwhile the girls did themselves proud, both the senior women Beth Miller and Kelly Laughton gained valuable points, with Kelly winning the High Jump. Sophie Williams was our only U17’s girl and gained the team 9 valuable points in her 3 events. Both our U15’s and U13’s girls had 5 competitors in their age groups, Ellie Dacre, Gabby Fitzgerald, Katy Marsh, Rebecca Mullaney and Caitlin Whitehead all ran the 100m and 200 metres.
Evie Barclay, Ella Harper and Helena Norris all did the 100m, 200m and Long Jump and had similar times in both the races. Anna Walton was competing in her first Mid Lancs and ran a fantastic 200m time and an even better 800m in 2.46.6. Katie Shingler was again the best U13’s performer and gained maximum points in the High Jump and Long Jump.
The best performance of the day though has to go to James Lovell, he won all 3 of his events, 100m, 200m and Long Jump, collecting 21 points for the team but more importantly and more impressively smashing his times with 2 PB’s, knocking off 0.5 seconds off his 100m running 11.8 and an unbelievable 2.4 seconds off his 200 metres running 23.7 seconds.
