Tockholes Fell Race – Saturday 4th July 2009 – 5.8m/1100’
Nine Harriers turned out for this local event. A rather clammy day with a hint of a breeze every now & then greeted the 130 runners. Our very own Super Vet, Graham Schofield was first home for Horwich. Graham collected a prize for first Vet (V50) home in the race & finished in a very fine fifth position overall. Our other V50 male competitor was the ever supportive Gordon Stone. Looking at some of the times, it looks like different batches of runners from the race went on a ‘Tour of Tockholes’. This was partly due to another event taking place in the woods, causing marker confusion & also some flags being ‘mischievously’ moved! That was their excuse anyway!!!! Wilf Brindle had dusted off his shoes for this event making a rare appearance – good to see him out on the race circuit again. Tony Hesketh, another one of our talented Vets, picked up first V60 prize showing son Paul a clean pair of heels. Great to see Frank Wood, another inspirational V60, enjoying the race. Mick Kay & Suzanne Budgett did some tussling throughout the race and on this rare occasion Suzanne managed to cross the line first also taking first female home. Nicole Kirkham, our only other female, had a great run picking up a very well deserved first V50 prize.
