Mid Lancs Cross Country Race – Witton Park Blakburn Sat 14th March.

The last of the Mid Lancs cross country races was held at Witton Park Blackburn on a slightly modified course from the usual saucer run, this time it included a mini hill before the saucer, which seemed to hold favour with the runners. Colin Rigby (38.08) was our first counter in 13th and found the undulating course to his liking, even overtaking runners on the downhill! Steve Nolan ran 40.14 for 30th place with Denis Mason (40.49) not far behind in 37th. Tony Hesketh (44.09) ran well taking the first 0/60 slot in 75th place overall. Steve Jackson clocked 45.33 for his 105th position, with Colin Wood (47.47) in 137th. Pete Bland and Barry Allman (50.17) had their usual inter club battle and exchanged places several times during the race, with Pete finally pulling away on the last lap for a time of 49.31. Gordon Stone (54.51) continues to make progress with his comeback, finishing in 182nd place. 209 ran.

Overall in league after six races I make it that only two club members have gained awards with Katie Ingram winning the ladies league outright and Pete Bland taking the third vet 60 award, well done to them. Inside the top ten was Colin Rigby, who has not been shown as a vet 0/40 in the results but if corrected would be 4th 0/40 and 10th senior overall. Steve Nolan made the top ten with a 9th place in the 0/40.

It looks as though he senior men’s team have been promoted to Division Three, and the vet’s 0/40 ‘s have also been promoted to Division Two, so a very well done to all those who have participated in the Mid Lancs this year. Lets hope that we can make a a concerted effort in the new season later this year with further progression up the divisions, and hopefully to encourage our ladies to participate fully in the X/C season.

On behalf on the club I would like to say well done to all the volunteers who run the league in such a professional manner, it is a credit to them, and is certainly the number one X/C league in the Northwest.
