Gordon Pearcy
Gordon Pearcy
I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Gordon Pearcy.
Gordon served on the committee whilst I was Chairman, he was Captain of the Veterans section, and always gave the job his best shot, he was dependable, always helping out at the clubs races and socials.
He would probably agree that he was not the most gifted athlete at the club, but made up for his lack of speed with one hundred percent commitment to the cause.
His friendly personality epitomised the spirit that was prevalent within the club during the 1980βs. He was never happier than when he competed for the club and wore the red and black with pride.
He was a popular figure in the town of Horwich, it was always a pleasure to bump into Gordon to chat about the good times we all enjoyed at that time, I particularly remember his energy at such events as the Welsh Castles Relay , The Pennine Way record attempt, and the Coast to Coast relay.
I know I speak for all who knew Gordon to say he will be sadly missed, a real character and a key member of the happy harriers.
