Mid Lancs. X/C Hyndburn – Sat 14th Feb
Katie Ingram blasted round the course and was a clear winner in the ladies race, giving her a nice confidence boost after a period of reduced training through injury and illness. Katie is now looking to sharpen her form even more as she heads into the Inter Counties race on 7th March at Nottingham where she will run for Lancs County.
Suzanne Budgett was our only other lady running, finishing in 15th place, running well considering her long standing cough. Once again a very poor turn out by the ladies in this new league, which was all the more disappointing considering we won the first race in the series outright.
The men’s team just needed one more big effort to gain promotion for next year and after a concerted effort – telephone wise – we fielded a quality team that finished second overall in the league to Clayton and easily topped our division. Our first counter was Gary Priestley who came back after a three month injury lay off to finish a super 4th overall in a quality field, showing his underlying talent. Equally impressive was James Kevan’s 8th place just 13 seconds behind Gary. James too has been off the scene for a while but is now back living in Chorley, so watch this space.
Colin Rigby finished in a great 20th place as our third counter and enjoyed his run in the mud. A surprise appearance by Alastair Murray – who had been stricken by the proverbial bug for over a week – helped considerably to boost the teams chances by finishing in 28th place. Steve Nolan (32nd) can always be counted on in team races as he chased Ali all the way finishing just 10 seconds behind him. Karl Ward another great club supporter made up the six man team with a fine run in 53rd place.
This still left five other club runners battling for places with Colin Wood running well in 147th, with the two Pete’s, Bland and Ramsdale working hard in the mud with Blandy just pulling away on the final lap for 158th with Pete R in 169th . Barry Allman is making steady progress with his training and was only five places behind Pete in 174th. Paul Murray was our final runner in 187th place and did well to run having injured his ribs weeks ago and was still not right.
