Dentdale Fell Race 2.9m/1385ft. Sun 29th Aug.

James Back on Form.

James Kevan (27.22) showed what a few weeks of continuous training can do for his form when finishing 13th in this English championship counter. James was out to impress the selectors and secure a place on the England team for the trip to Slovenia in Oct – hopefully he has done that. Darren Kay (27.56) was also making a return to championship racing with a creditable performance in 15th place, on reflection I am sure Darren will be pleased enough and will be hoping to build on this. James Logue in 20th ran well for his 28.46 time, and should be pleased with that. Graham Schofield had another cracking run in 35th with a time of 30.28 which gave him second 0/50, less than a minute behind first vet 0/50 Steve Oldfield. Alistair Murray in 52nd place I know was not too happy with his 32.01 time but his run helped the team into 3rd over all, which is a super position in a championship race. Steve Jackson in 82nd continued his race comeback with a time of 34.20, only a minute off 2nd 0/55, which should give Steve plenty of encouragement. Mike Crook (35.28) had another solid run in 95th , but possible vet run of the day was Pete Walkington’s first 0/65. Back from a spell of training at altitude (sounds good that) Pete ran 37.24, – 20 seconds in front of rival Geoff Fielding, who is currently in second place in the championship. With Langdale still to go there is a chance of a medal position. It was a similar picture in the 0/70 race as Ray Stafford was aiming for a bronze medal. After finishing 2nd 0/70 on the day in 44.39 and collecting 9 points I think he had done that, hope I have the calculations right Ray! Well done.

In the ladies race it was a close match between Suzanne Budgett and Lindsey Brindle as they swopped places throughout the race helping each other to 12th and 14th place respectively with just 14 seconds separating them at the finish – all gained with Suzanne’s new track pace as she cruised passed Lindsey on the finishing road section.
This gives Suzanne the 0/45 championship, excellent result! Suzanne was also topping the 0/40 table but places have started to move a little with the results at Dentdale so its all in the mixing pot again with Langdale likely to add a little more intrigue to the final top three places. Lindsey I know will be very pleased with her progress of late as she now places very well in championship races.
Geraldine Walkington’s run in 36th place put her back into contention for a medal in the championship, as she finished 3rd 0/50 on the day. Still suffering from a hip injury she did her chances of a podium finish a power of good, and it would only need a good run at Langdale to finish in the medals possibly a silver! Rachel Metcalfe ran well for 49th place in 41.23 with the ladies finishing in 5th team on the day.
