Whittle Pike 4.5m/1400ft – 5th August

Seven Harriers made the short trip to Waterfoot for this tough ‘A’ category race, with the going soft underfoot but overall good conditions, with plenty of sunshine but cool enough for racing. Young Peter Howarth – on leave from Uni in Bangor – had an excellent race finishing in fifth place, just over a minute behind race winner Alex Whittam of CFR. Next for us was Graham Schofield first over fifty in a brilliant eighth position. Tony Hesketh in a fine 32nd place was first over sixty, with Mike Crook second over sixty in 47th, just ahead of Pete Leighton 48th -who does race a lot. Colin Waterworth cycled to and from the race and finished 94th and was pleased with his run. The final Harrier was Mark Sammon who seems to be racing everywhere; he finished in 135th out of 156 running.
