Horwich RMI Harriers had their first Young Athlete League match on Sunday. Having been promoted into Division 1 they knew that the standard would be high, particularly as they had a tough opening fixture however the Horwich club acquitted themselves well. The weather was horrendous with strong winds and heavy rain however the home club still managed to win over 30 events with over 40 athletes competing.
Five new club records were set all in the U 17 age groups with Matthew Storey and Jamie Crompton setting new figures for the Men over Triple Jump and 1500m Steeplechase and Rebecca Keating, Hammer and both the U 17 relay teams setting new figures for the Women
Athlete of the meeting though was April Stephenson with a grade 1 performance over 800m, just short of her club record.
