Horwich Ladies Impress at National 4 Stage

Horwich ladies finished a super 28th place from over 80 teams at the National 4 Stage Road relays at Sutton Park today.

Katie Ingram keen to impress the selectors for a place on the Ekiden Relay in Japan in November, took over a minute off her course PB to record 14.26 for fourth place on leg one. This put her 11th fastest overall just 6 seconds away from 6th place – such was the standard on the day. Running second for the team was Lisa Heyes who returned to her old stamping ground were in 2002 she took 2nd place with a time of 14.22, which earned her a GB vest and a trip to Japan. Not quite as fast at the moment but running back into some good form Lisa ran 16.15 and brought the team home in 16th. Suzanne Budgett – like Katie – already committed to running the FRA relays the following day had agreed at the last minute to help the team out by running the third leg, which she did very well in 17.05 only 16 seconds slower than her race time in 2005. This left relative newcomer to the relay scene Caroline Scholes to run the last leg which she did giving 100% and doing great with a time of 17.24. Its quite an intimidating experience standing in the holding pen of a national relay waiting for your runner to come in – especially when the team is well placed, but Caroline handled it fine and enjoyed the race and gained valuable experience from her day out.

Well done ladies.
