South East Lancs X.C league Leigh 14th Nov
The first fixture in this years South East Lancs XC League took place at Leigh Sports Village and was a very muddy course.
Three runners from Horwich and the same family had a very successful afternoon with Tom Massey winning the U/13 Boys race, brother Luke winning the U/17 race and father Paul winning his category in the men’s race.
The first race of the afternoon saw Lydia Johnson fade after a bright start to finish 16th with team mate Skye Nicholson finishing in 33rd place.
In the U/13 Boys Tom Massey led from gun to tape with a very strong run. Ten seconds behind came Luke Brindle claiming second place with a superb sprint in the final 100 metres. With Matthew Mair finishing 6th the team award was never in doubt.
The U/13 girls race saw Amelia Bailey have her best run to date to place fourth with Milly Lever just over 30 seconds behind in 8th.
In the U/15 race Lewis Wilkes had great race finishing fourth but only 13 seconds behind the winner K Wade of Leigh Harriers.
Luke Massey had a tremendous race in the U/17 race getting away from a East Cheshire runner on the final lap to record a famous win.
In the senior men’s race Paul Massey carried on where his sons had left off to finish 7th place and first O/45 too with a fantastic race in 35.38. Newcomer Dave Purnell ran well for 47th in 42.31 and in 60th place was O/65 winner Tony Hesketh in 44.22. Dave Barnes had a great race despite doing a Park Run 5 hours before to finis 80th in 46.02 and it was left to O/70 winner John Parker to bring the team home in 50.56.
