Ian Hesketh Memorial Duathlon 23rd May
Excellent conditions greeted the the capacity field for this years Duathlon held in Rivington and which consists of two 5K runs either side of a 21K cycle section.
Last years winner and course record holder Tom Carson led from the gun with relay team runner Karl Dracy finishing the first run together. The cycle section saw Tom lose his lead to Mark Russell of Swinton by just six seconds. Mark had the third fastest bike split but on the final run was overtaken and was eleven seconds adrift at the finish. Dave Jackson of Horwich had a brilliant race never outside the top four. He ran strongly on the final leg to finish well clear in third place.
Other notable performances came from Paul Massey of Horwich with two top ten runs and this was enough for tenth place. Tom Lucas was fourteenth another athlete in fine form and the Horwich contingent was completed by Barry Allman in 82nd place.
The Ladies race was never in doubt with Bolton’s Catherine O’Dwyer winning by over eleven minutes and finishing 22nd place overall.
