24th Jan – Ashurst Beacon – 6 miles

Despite the muddy conditions over 180 runners toed the line for this popular fell race with seven red vests amongst them. Times were slower than usual due to the mud. The race was won by Simon O Mera of Man Uni cc in 38.02. For us Danny Hope ran well for third slowly getting back to form after injury. Graham Schofield came in 21st first O/55 in 44.38 chased home by Paul Boardmanin 30th in 45.24. In 43rd came Gary Chadderton with a time of 46.48. The run of the day came from Suzanne Budgett who was first lady O/50 and a superb second place in the ladies race. Tony Hesketh was 1st O/65 despite an injury in 67th and the Horwich squad was completed by Michael Kay in 92nd.
