MEN’S 12 STAGE ROAD RELAY CHAMPIONSHIPS
Saturday 15th March 2014 at Heaton Park Manchester
The qualification criteria for the “National” ERRA 12 Stage Championships requires a top 25 team placing at these northern road relays.
The Red Army went through a number of changes prior to race day but the squad on the day did the club proud, gaining a comfortable qualification.
The course was undulating and dealing with some stiff winds made the going quite tough at times – it was clear that the initial race distances published were slightly out particularly on the long leg : –
Stages 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11 were published as a distance of 4.9 miles (actual 5.63 miles) and likewise for Stages 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 published as 2.8 miles (actual 3.01 miles)
Holders Leeds City AC retained their title once again by over 3 minutes over Stockport and Morpeth with Horwich finishing a very credible 16th team out of 64 “completed” teams.
1st. Leeds City Athletic Club 4:22:29 (total cumulative time for 12 stages)
2nd Stockport Harriers & AC 4:25:34
3rd Morpeth Harriers & AC 4:27:31
16th Horwich R M I Harriers 4:52:00
