Smithills Serpent 5 mile Trail Race
Sunday 30th May 2010.
The Magnificent Seven.
For those that do not know this race is run on shredded tyres and sand which makes it all the more interesting and very kind on the legs. The weather was ideal for racing cool with a slight wind a pity only 87 competitors entered.
It was a case of the magnificent seven ride again when Horwich Harriers finished in the first seven places . Richard Howarth led from the gun to win easily from Colin Rigby who was first veteran, Martin Jones ran well for third and with Graham Schofield fourth and a remarkable first over fifty we easily won the team prize. One must feel sorry for Rob Jackson in fifth place and not counting in the team with four to count. The only other category winner was Tony Hesketh first over sixty.
