Wray Caton Fell Race, May day Monday, 6.75m, 1100ft.

Five Harriers competed in a field of 139 finishers in this excellent fell race on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, part of the Wray Scarecrow Festival. Conditions were ideal leading to Borrowdale’s Chris Steele smashing Mark Croasdale’s 3 year old record by 50 seconds and Spectrum’s Liz Whitfield also lowering the ladies’ mark by 32 seconds.

Doug Fleming was first of the chevron vests, 26th in 50:52, closely followed by fellow V50 Neil Wrigley, 29th in 51:24. Peter Leighton (V40) was 58th in 56:20, followed by myself, very happy with a eight minute improvement over last year, 83rd in 59:30 and then Allan Blinkhorn (V60) now back racing on a regular basis after a long layoff, 128th in 70:40. Another name from the past, but not yet back in a club vest was Trevor Dibben, in his first race for a couple of years.
