Katie 12th in World Cup Triathlon.

Sunday 18th April 2010.

Katie Ingram took on her first full triathlon in Mexico when competing in the second round of the World Cup series finishing a superb 12th. Looking at her times and the circumstances in the race it has given Katie plenty of confidence for her next race, when the experience of racing in Mexico can be put to good use.

Katie sent this report:

Being the lowest ranked athlete I had a disadvantage from the start as I ended up last on pontoon which meant I had the worst start position and got squashed to the back as it bottlenecked after 100m. So I got boxed in and then ended up in the wrong pack, so onto the bike I was in the 3rd group and they were all holding in line with no one keen to work hard, there was no organisation to the pack, nobody wanted to work to help pull the group back so I had to settle for being in the 3rd group as front pack had put about 3mins into us.

I had the 2nd fastest run of the day and felt great on the run (fastest was the girl who won by 3 secs) so all in all not a bad start to my triathlon career. I did the best I could with the situation and more experience of swim/where to be/how hard I need to start and possibly trying to break away on my own on the bike and I should definitely improve.
