Rufford 10k – Sun 6th Sept
Colin Leads the Way.
Colin Rigby made it a course PB as he powered round in 33.03 – failing to check his watch on the run in! But he was very happy with his second place overall and in leading the Horwich team to victory, with good team back up from Stevie Nolan (35.55) in 9th Denis Mason (36.09) in 12th and Karl Ward (37.27) in 23rd.
Suzanne Budgett (38.57) was out next counter taking the second lady position and 39th overall. This was a super 10k run for Suzanne on a not too friendly course which I think is a PB. The ladies finished third team with Sarah Gorman (45.57) and team mate Christine Boardman battling it out to the finish, with just three seconds separating them. In the men’s vets ranks, Steve Jackson (41.11) was getting in more road time finishing 3rd 0/55 in 59th place. Pete Bland finished 2nd 0/60 in 44.33, fast enough – I believe – to clinch his age group in the Grand Prix. Barry Allman (45.52) had to be content to let his mate fade into the distant, and will have to get in some serious training if the X/C battles are to commence with any meaning! (Come on Barry) Gordon Stone continues to race himself to fitness running 47.32 for 126th on the day. Ed Swift clocked 49.43 in 148th and Gillian Burnell (50.40) had to settle this time for 2nd 0/60, as did Ray Stafford (53.26) in the 0/70 age group, just a minute behind Pete Edwards of Northern Vets. 186 ran.
