Mid Lancs X/C League – Burnley Sat 8th Nov

The club had a dream start to its inclusion in this years league, with both men and ladies teams taking top spot.

Katie Ingram (23.11) started the ball rolling – continuing where she left off in the Red Rose league – with a super win on a course that although flat, was tough going with heavy underfoot conditions. Lisa Heyes (26.49) in 13th had a better run than of late this time staying just in front of Suzanne Budgett (26.54) who had another fine run in 15th. With only three to count the ladies notched up their first win in this league.
Caroline Scholes (27.41) was going well in the group with Lisa and Suzanne until she had a bad nose bleed, and came off the pace. Two other ladies ran, with Rachel Metcalfe (30.18) doing her X/C stint for the club and running well for 55th, and with Chrissy Sweatman (34.10) battling it out with the 0/50’s it was a good turn out in this new league. (130 ladies ran !)

In the men’s race Gary Priestley (34.41) had possibly his best X/C race to date when finishing third – in very good company – with a sustained and well paced run from the gun – and more importantly for Gary finishing first junior man. Gareth Booth (36.30) in 23rd also paced his run well finishing strongly on the last lap. Our first vet in – Martin Jones (36.55) continues to impress with his running, finishing in 25th spot, with Guy Heyes (37.00) making good progress this year on the country just behind Martin. With six to count in this league excellent back up was given with Colin Rigby (37.15) in 33rd and Alastair Murray (37.47) in 39th. Colin, although not a lover of the country, got stuck in and with Ali pacing his run well they helped the team to a pretty impressive win – having been told that 34 clubs are represented in this league. 268 ran.

Other good runs came from: Steve Nolan in 43rd, Brendan Bolland 46th,Karl Ward 61st, Simon Parkinson 93rd, Tony Hesketh (111th) did bril for 1st 0/60.
Colin Wood 172nd and Pete Bland (198) and 4th 0/60 from a field of – twenty one 0/60’s running!

It’s a pretty impressive league and very well run. Thanks to everyone who turned out on the day and did the club proud.

Our best wishes to Jamie Crompton for a quick recovery from the injury he sustained when falling awkwardly in his race and injuring his neck and shoulder – when incidentally lying in second place.
