Jubilee Race Wed 19th Aug

Neil Takes Well Deserved Victory

The last race in the series was run on a muggy sort of night but it did not stop new recruit Neil Pendlebury from having his first outright win in the series with a 27.02. Neil was prominent in the lead group on the first lap but pulled away strongly on the second lap as they climbed the hill, and eased into a ten second lead over Andy Ward of Wigan by the finish. This win also gave Neil the overall series title.
Richard Howarth gave very strong support having a cracking race finishing in fourth place and running exactly the same time as in July 27.32. Steve Nolan finished tenth on the night in 29.02 and rapped up another race series with a fine performance of 3rd overall and 2nd vet. Other age group winners on the night were Steve Jackson having somewhat of a race revival at the moment taking the first 0/55 in 33.28, and Suzanne Budgett (32.34) having a mini break from the fells and taking the first 0/45 prize in a new course PB for her. Doug Fleming finished off the series in 5th overall and 4th vet, clocking 32.05 on the night for 24th place. Denis Mason was 13th on the night in 29.52, with Mick Crook having to settle for 2nd 0/60 in 34.08, which is not hanging about. Colin Wood ran 34.46 for 53rd and Mark Burns clocked 35.18 for 57th place, nice to see Mark now on the race scene after his regular attendances at the hill sessions. Paul Hesketh is now racing regularly and improving, running 36.13 for 66th, as is Gordon Stone (40.45) in 87th In he ladies race we took the team prize well done ladies, Christine Boardman and Gaynor Higson battled it out for a while before Chris opened a gap of nearly a minute by the end, not sure if the one second gap behind brother Keith was a genuine one or not! Kath Swindells finished off the series in 5th overall and 3rd vet running 42.45 on the night, with Cath Wrigley running 44.39.
We had sixteen runners on the night.
