Red Rose XC, Blackburn “White Out”
Saturday 18th Dec 2010
On Saturday it was only the U13 boys Nathan, Jonathan & Will who braved the elements to run in the last series of the Red Rose XC. This was the last but nevertheless most important race for the lads as they had to perform to clinch the title.
However, it was clear at the start something was wrong. Nathan Townsend the teamβs front runner was well down the field
and struggled to make up places and finished a disappointing 8th. Had the title slipped away! A wrong footwear choice had hindered his run and therefore surely put him out of the individual position and team position.
Further down the field Will Townsend came in a strong 15th his best this year and continues to improve. It was on Jonathans shoulders as to where they were going to finish. Right from the start Jonathan took a good position and kept there. Coming home in his best result of the year finishing 5th could this be the result the team needed. Could this turn of events now keep the team in the points? Thankfully yes.
This was the first time the club has managed a medal position for the U13 boys coming home in 2nd position. In the series, Jonathans run managed to push him to joint 4th in the series with Nathan just managing to hold onto 3rd.
