Katie & Gary Shine Again.

Both Katie Ingram and Gary Priestley continued their winning ways at Bury, on a course much different from Blackburn. Heavy rain had made the course particularly heavy underfoot, and with rain and a cold wind, conditions were far from ideal.

The tent once again proved its value with a club turnout of forty athletes, including twelve juniors, who I hope were not put off by the conditions.
Our ladies again took the team award with Katie ( 21.38) having a flyer,taking over 90 seconds out of second place Carly Needham. Claire Burns (24.40) fresh from her marathon the previous weekend surprised everyone – and herself – with a super run and second counter to Katie. Suzanne Budgett (24.52 and 1st 0/45) ) equally ran bril, finishing with a rare sprint finish to edge past Lisa Heyes (24.57) who had give her usual 100% . This gave us four ladies in the top ten, and with Caroline Scholes (25.51) in 14th place we had super back up. It was nice to see Rebecca German (27.00) – a new club junior – in the ladies field running in the U/17’s and placing 6th in her age group. Christine Boardman (28.24) gets ever fitter and ran great for 34th place, with Chrissy Sweatman (32.11) in 58th completing our ladies entries.

In the men’s race Gary (35.59) again paced the race perfectly to come through strong at the end and secure a second super clear win. Our second counter and first league vet was Martin Jones (37.26) who is now starting to make serious inroads into the field, and he is still not doing sessions! Colin Rigby (37.45) cruised through the field to show his strength base and was very pleased with his 11th place. Gareth Booth (37.53) was also happy with his run in 13th and knows he is well on the way back to his old form. Guy Heyes (38.12) was our fifth counter running ace for 16th place with Alastair Murray (39.49) in 29th making up our six man winning team. Ali battled it out again with Steve Nolan over the last few hundred metres and still has the edge over the sprint outcome. Steve (39.51) had the mini consolation of first 0/45. We only had one other category winner in the evergreen Mick Crook (44.11) who took the first 0/60. We missed out marginally on the vets teams.
